Professor Brian Hale, an Engineering instructor at VHCC, visited our Engineering, Robotics, and Drafting students to share invaluable insights into community college opportunities. He discussed the programs he teaches, the benefits of starting at VHCC, and how students can build a solid foundation for a successful transfer to a 4-year university. A huge thank you to Mr. Hale for inspiring our future engineers!
Due to predictions of windchills in the morning in the single digits, WCPS will operate on a 2 hour delayed schedule on Friday, December 6, 2024. Childcare will be available for working parents at elementary schools.
Bethaney Hilt, Associate Professor of Nursing and Simulation Lab Coordinator at VHCC, shared her knowledge of the Juno simulation manikin with Carrie Gobble, LPN instructor. Students will work with the simulation manikin to practice a variety of nursing skills.
In what has been a tricky morning, we have decided to call a Remote Learning Day for Tuesday December 3, 2024. Main roads are clear, as are some back roads and side streets. However, “road checkers”, encountered multiple slick secondary roads. At our December School Board Meeting, we will present a Snow Route plan that would potentially allow us to have in person learning on days like today. Be safe, stay warm, and we’ll see everyone online
Due to current snowfall in some parts of Washington County, temperatures in the teens overnight, and predicted snowfall in the morning hours, WCPS will operate on a 2 hour delayed schedule on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Childcare will be provided for working parents at elementary schools. Should conditions worsen to warrant a Remote Learning Day, childcare will not be available. A decision to change from a 2 hour delayed schedule to Remote Learning will be made by 7:30 a.m.

*Remote Learning Day -- NO childcare will be provided
*Two-Hour Delay -- Childcare will be provided at elementary schools from 8:00 a.m. until the start of the school day.
As a reminder: A Remote Learning Day will be announced if instruction is going to be provided during an unscheduled closure of a school or schools. Classroom teachers will communicate with students about the processes they will use to facilitate their classes.
A Remote Learning Day is NOT a traditional snow day. School Closed will be announced if instruction is NOT going to be provided during an unscheduled closure of a school or schools.

On Wednesday, November the 20, the Washington County CTE Center hosted an appreciation lunch and Veterans' Day program. Lunch for veterans and their family members was prepared and served by students from the Culinary Arts program. After lunch SkillsUSA officers held an assembly honoring the veterans. The colors were presented by members of the Highlands Honor Guard, and Marine Corps Veteran, David Matlock, was the guest speaker. Mr. Matlock spoke about the sacrifices veterans have made and challenged students to honor veterans by being good citizens and working to make their families, communities and country better. Veterans also received free car washes and had the opportunity to receive free haircuts from cosmetology students.
It was a beautiful morning for the first annual WCCTEC Veterans Day 5K to support Skills USA! Runners and walkers of all ages completed the course, with medals given to top 3 male and female overall, top 3 male and female in ages 45-99, and youngest and oldest finishers! Thanks to We Run Events and all of our great sponsors!
Students enrolled in Early Childhood Development/Teachers for Tomorrow successfully completed the Virginia Preservice Training for Child Care Staff through the Virginia Department of Education. This course ensures these students are aware and knowledgeable of how to keep children in their care healthy and safe. They know how to create safe spaces, use safe practices with children, develop and implement daily illness prevention and management strategies, and plan to keep children safe if an emergency occurs. This ten hour course provides an overview of health and safety topics and additional required learning for Virginia Child Care professionals.

Our Drafting: Architecture students have been diving into the fascinating History of Architecture! Each student selected a unique architectural period to research, and on Friday, November 1, 2024, they shared their findings with the class through insightful presentations.
